Program Change Proposal: AAS Respiratory Therapy. Nature of Changes: ENG 090 and MA 090 added to bring program into compliance with University policy.

Program Change Proposal: AAS Radiology Technology. Nature of Changes: ENG 090 and MA 090 added to bring program into compliance with University policy.

Academic Policy Proposals (from the Provost):

The major points in this proposal that I (Howard) see are:

No minor or language requirement for BA's.
Students may dual major across degrees getting the degree associated with the primary major.

A description of the proposal follows. Department chairs should have a copy of the full proposal along with supporting documents.

Degree Standards document:

1. Baccalaureate degrees will have a minimum of 120 credits and a maximum of 138.

2. Upper right side of ER for baccalaureate degrees must have a minimum of 25% of total credits required.

3. All baccalaureate degrees except BM's will have a minimum of 40% in gen ed. BM's will have a minimum of 30%. BA's and BS's may specify no more than 1/3 of gen ed requirements.

4. For baccalaureate degrees, a minimum of 40% of credit requirements must be completed at 300-400 level and 40% of upper right side must be at 300-400 level.

5. BA's will include a major program with credit requirements not exceeding 1/3 of the total degree program. A minor area and/or a foreign language proficiency may be required.

6. BS's will include a major program with credit requirements not exceeding 1/2 of the total degree program.

Additional academic policies (some are simply changes in the catalog):

1. Associate degrees: Minimum of 60 credits (090 courses increase credit hours required for graduation.)

Gen ed: 50% of credits for AA's; 40% for AS's.

Core: ENG 112 (3), COM 101 (3), Fine Arts (3), HPE (1).

Dist: AA's 20 credits, AS's 14 credits in 3 of 5 blocks with no more than two courses with the same prefix in any block.

Two W courses in addition to ENG 112.

2. Residency: 25% of requred credits must be completed at MU.

3. Delete references to ED 090.

4. Dual Majors: Dual majors will earn degree associated with primary major. Second majors will be noted on transcripts as "Successfully completed all requirements of the academic major in ." This will allow students to double major across degrees (e.g. BA in English with a second major in Computer Science with no BS).

5. Academic Minors: Delete references to BA's having to choose a minor or language.

6/7. Transfer Evaluation: No limit on credits accepted for transfer. Students must have earned a 2.0 GPA to transfer credit. Students must complete 50% of major and 25% of degree at MU.

8. Application Fee for Community College Graduates: Fee waived for PA community college graduates.

9. Students enrolled in 090, 100-level, and 200-level courses receive mid-semester grades on a scale of A to F.
