Curriculum Action Notice

From:

Academic Affairs Committee

Date:

January 26, 2001

This is a bulletin from the Academic Affairs Committee concerning proposed curriculum actions. Within the next 10 days, please forward any comments or concerns to the AAC Chair, Lynn Pifer. Belknap Hall 05, x4384,  lpifer@mnsfld.edu.

The following course change has been proposed by the Department of Communication, Theatre, & Art

Number change only: COM 215 to COM 270 Audio Production

Rationale for change:

  1. COM 215 has evolved to meet demands of the industry, and now includes digital theory and training. This evolution, with the corresponding increase in level of instruction, makes this course now upper division.
  2. The change will correct an inconsistency in the ER for the Broadcasting emphasis, which currently has the choice of COM 215 or COM 310 for an emphasis requirement. Under this current numbering system, a broadcasting major may have either 15 or 18 upper division credits required. The change will establish consistency across the ERs of our three main COM emphases, and assist Broadcasting majors in meeting the 40% rule.
