The following PROGRAM CHANGE has been proposed by the Education and Special Education Department.

**It changes all elementary, special education, and secondary BSE programs.**


Students in elementary, special education, and secondary BSE programs will be required to successfully complete six credits of English composition and/or literature and six credits of mathematics within the first 48 credit hours (as a requirement to advance to upper division education courses numbered 250 and above). The requirement will be entered on ERs for Elementary Education BSE, Special Education BSE, Biology Education BSE, Chemistry Education BSE, Earth and Space Science BSE, English Education BSE, French Education BSE, German Education BSE, Mathematics Education BSE, Physics Education BSE, Social Studies Comprehensive BSE (all emphases), and Spanish Education BSE. This requirement is mandated by Pennsylvania Department of Education Chapter 354 regulations and replaces the previous requirement of C or better in ENG 112, COM 101, and ED 102 in the first 45 credit hours ("Gates" policy).
