February 16, 2001

This is a bulletin from the Academic Affairs Committee concerning proposed curriculum actions. Within the next 10 days, please forward any comments or concerns to the AAC Chair, Lynn Pifer. Belknap Hall 05, x4384,

The following New Course Proposal series has been proposed by the Department of Philosophy & Liberal Studies and the Canadian Studies Program:

CDN 370- 380 Study in Canada

Course description:

CDN 370

Open to students who wish to study in Canada. Plans for study at a Canadian university should be presented at least one semester prior to departure. Number of credits granted will be based on validated credentials presented to the Canadian Studies program. The student should register for CDN 370-380 prior to departure. Students should consult the regulations for study-abroad available in the Office of the Provost/Vice president for Academic Affairs.

CDN 371-380

See CDN 370 for course description

1-3 arranged undergraduate credits (minimum 1 credit, maximum 3 credits)

Purpose and nature of course.

These courses will facilitate student participation in MU's exchange programs with Canadian universities. They also close a gap not covered by similar courses offered under the prefixes FR, GER, SPA, and RUS. The CDN prefix will be assigned only to those courses which have significant Canadian content (33% or greater) and for which we have no MU equivalent. These courses will help students enrolled in the Canadian Studies Minor complete the program in a more timely manner by extending the number of courses offered without placing any new financial burdens on the university. Beginning with September 2001, it is likely MU will have 3-10 students per year studying at Canadian universities. Mansfield now has two active exchange agreements with Canadian universities.
