ACTION: New Course Proposal

 

COURSE TITTLE: SOC 357 Sociology of Education.

 

CREDIT HOURS: 3

 

PURPOSE AND NATURE OF THE COURSE: Students will develop an understandingof the major theories and research in the area of the sociology of education. They will also become familiar with key historical events in education and the structure of schooling in the United States. Through completing the reading and writing assignments, students will develop their ability to think conceptually, to understand the logic of social science research, to manipulate simple social statistics, and to evaluate the utility of sociological and educational theories. By the end of the course students will become capable of intellectually discussing current issues in education.
