Curriculum Action Notice

Academic Affairs Committee

November 17, 2002

This is a bulletin from the Academic Affairs Committee concerning proposed curriculum actions. Within the next 10 days, please forward any comments or concerns to the AAC Chair, Helen Biblehimer, Elliott Hall 203, ext. 4521,

The Department of Languages and Literature has requested the following curricular change:

Action: Program Change: B.S.E. English

Rationale for Change: Reduce English B.S.E. program from 128 credits to 120 credits to meet SSHE mandate. (SSHE guidelines permit professional programs to alter general education requirements to accommodate professional accreditation requirements. Based on this guideline, the general education requirements have been adjusted to meet the allotted number of credit hours while maintaining alignment with Pennsylvania Department of Education and other accreditation requirements.)

List all changes:

Delete COM 2200
Delete COM 4400
Move ENG 1130 to Gen Ed Electives (meets Act 354)
Move ENG 2226 to Gen Ed Electives
Place ED PSY 2205 in Group 5

Impact on other programs: Deletion of COM 2200 COM 4400 has been discussed with the chair of the Communication and Theatre Department and it was determined the impact on course enrollments would be slight. (E.g., three ENG majors were among the twenty-seven enrolled in COM 2220 spring of 2002.)
