Curriculum Action Notice

From:

Academic Affairs Committee

Date:

November 20, 2002

This is a bulletin from the Academic Affairs Committee concerning proposed curriculum actions. Within the next 10 days, please forward any comments or concerns to the AAC Chair, Helen Biblehimer, Elliott Hall 203, ext. 4521, hbiblehi@mnsfld.edu.

The Department of Music has requested the following curricular changes:

#1 Action: Program Change: Bachelor of Music; Music Education

Rationale for change: The music department continues in its efforts to meet the State 120 Semester hour mandate and our NASM Accreditation. No one course can match what is inherently learned about fine arts through the entire body of this degree in music. Since music is inherently a fine art, this requirement should be waived for all music education majors. The curriculum itself goes far beyond what is required by general education.

List all changes:

DELETE THE FINE ARTS REQUIREMENT OF 3 SEMESTER HOURS FROM THIS DEGREE

Impact on other programs (if any): MORE SEATS WILL BE MADE AVAIALBLE TO OTHER COURSES IN THE FINE ARTS.

#2 Action: Program Change: Bachelor of Music; Music Performance

Rationale for change: The music department continues in its efforts to meet the State 120 Semester hour mandate and our NASM Accreditation. No one course can match what is inherently learned about fine arts through the entire body of this degree in music. Since music is inherently a fine art, this requirement should be waived for all music performance majors. The curriculum itself goes far beyond what is required by general education.

List all changes:
DELETE THE FINE ARTS REQUIREMENT OF 3 SEMESTER HOURS FROM THIS DEGREE.

Impact on other programs (if any): MORE SEATS WILL BE MADE AVAIALBLE TO OTHER COURSES IN THE FINE ARTS.

No one course can match what is inherently learned about fine arts through the entire body of this degree in music. Since music is inherently a fine art, this requirement should be waived for all music therapy majors. The curriculum itself goes far beyond what is required by general education.

List all changes:
