This is a bulletin from the Academic Affairs Committee concerning proposed curriculum actions. Within the next 10 days, please forward any comments or concerns to the AAC Chair, Helen Biblehimer, Elliott Hall 203, ext. 4521, hbiblehi@mnsfld.edu.

The Department of Languages & Literature has requested the following curricular change:

Action: Program Change: English Literature Minor

Rationale for Change: The proposed changes to the English Literature minor reflect recent curricular changes to the major, and requirements have been adjusted so all courses taken for the minor will also count for the major.

List all Changes:

From old minor delete:

  • ENG 115: Intro to Literature requirement
  • ENG 203: Readings in Ancient Lit., ENG 204: Readings in World Lit., or ENG
    220: Special Topics requirement
  • 6 hours of electives to be chosen from ENG 350 - ENG 401

To new minor add:

  • ENG 1130: Introduction to Literary Studies
  • 9 hours of English Literature electives from ENG 2226 - ENG 4401

The requirement to take Survey of Brit Lit I or II and Survey of American Lit I or II does not change.

Program Description for Catalog:

The English literature minor invites students of all disciplines to explore and develop their interest in literature, while refining foundational skills in critical thinking, problem solving, and written expression. This minor will help students to meet the challenges of a dynamic economic
marketplace as it prepares them for a wide variety of professional activities, including careers in law, the media, publishing, public relations, library science, public service, and industry.
