Curriculum Action Notice

This is a bulletin from the Academic Affairs Committee concerning proposed curriculum actions. Within the next 10 days, please forward any comments or concerns to the AAC Chair, Helen Biblehimer, Elliott Hall 203, ext. 4521, hbiblehi@mnsfld.edu.

The department of Music has requested the following curricular action:

#1. Action: Program Change: Bachelor of Arts; Music

Rationale for change: The music department continues in its efforts to meet the State 120 Semester hour mandate and our NASM Accreditation. All petitions for exceptions to the 120 rule were denied, leaving us no choice but to ask for additional changes. These are outlined below.

List all changes:
Accept any one of three music history courses in the humanities block 3 credits MU 2220, or MU 2221 or MU 2222. Accept with the same coveate for review as other similar courses were accepted.

A REDUCTION FROM 6 REQUIRED HOURS IN HUMANITIES TO 3

#2 Action: Program Change: Bachelor of Music; Music Performance

Rationale for change: The music department continues in its efforts to meet the State 120 Semester hour mandate and our NASM Accreditation. All petitions for exceptions to the 120 rule were denied, leaving us no choice but to ask for additional changes. These are outlined below.

List all changes:
Accept any one of three music history courses in the humanities block 3 credits MU 2220, or MU 2221 or MU 2222. Accept with the same coveate for review as other similar courses were accepted.

#3. Action: Program Change: Bachelor of Music; Music Education

Accept any one of three music history courses in the humanities block 3 credits MU 2220, or MU 2221 or MU 2222. Accept with the same coveate for review as other similar courses were accepted.

A REDUCTION FROM 6 REQUIRED HOURS IN HUMANITIES TO 3

#4 Action: Program Change: Bachelor of Music; Elective Studies in Business

Rationale for change: The music department continues in its efforts to meet the State 120 Semester hour mandate and our NASM Accreditation. All petitions for exceptions to the 120 rule were denied at the State level and we must return to the campus to continue to meet the mandate. Total
program hours were 133. This, in combination with previous efforts, will reduce us to 120 hours.

List all changes:
DELETE:

Music 314 Computer Music Notation 1 credit
BUS 410 Business Law I 3 credits

Accept any one of three music history courses in the humanities block 3 credits* MU 2220, or MU 2221 or MU 2222.

Accept with the same caveat for review as
other similar courses were accepted.

#5 Action: Program Change: Bachelor of Music; Music Therapy

Rationale for change: The music department continues in its efforts to meet the State 120 Semester hour mandate and our NASM Accreditation and American Music Therapists Association Guidelines. All petitions for exceptions to the 120 rule were denied, leaving us no choice but to ask for additional changes. These are outlined below.

List all changes:
Accept any one of three music history courses in the humanities block 3 credits MU 2220, or MU 2221 or MU 2222. Accept with the same caveat for review as other similar courses were accepted.

#6 Action: Course Change: MAP 3318 Keyboard Skills II

Purpose and nature of change: To complete changes to meet the 120 ruling.
Change the title of this course only. Description and content remain the same. This is a paired requested with a deletion of MAP 317 Keyboard Skills I. Currently this course is titled Keyboard Skills II. As info from deleted 317 is folded into MAP 1114, this course MAP 318 simply needs to be titled Keyboard Skills (dropping II) from the title.
Old Title: MAP 3318 Keyboard Skills II
New Title: MAP 3318 Keyboard Skills

#7 Action: Course Deletion: MU Number: 3317 Keyboard Skill I
Rationale for deletion: Information in Keyboard skills I is being folded into MAP 1114 Piano to accommodate needs to reduce hours. Keyboard Skills II will undergo a title change to Keyboard Skills and will complete the necessary information and skill development.
