This is a bulletin from the Academic Affairs Committee concerning proposed curriculum actions. Within the next 10 days, please forward any comments or concerns to the AAC Chair, Helen Biblehimer, Elliott Hall 203, ext. 4521, hbiblehi@mnsfld.edu.

The art department has requested the following change:

#1 Action: Program Change: B.S.E. Art Education

Rationale for change:
Currently all art students must choose either theater or music in the Fine Arts Block. Placing ArH 1101 Introduction to Art under the Fine Arts block would free three credits. Freeing three credits would allow for an art history elective that would strengthen the BSE in Art Ed making it more compliant with PDE (Pennsylvania Department of Education) and NCATE which desire more art history in an Art Education degree. Previously reducing the B.S. Art Ed degree to 120 credits reduced the art history credits from 12 to 9 which weakened the degree. We would like to rectify this weakness by adding an art history elective, bringing the total art history credits back to 12.
Concerning Fine Arts, all B.S. Studio and B.S. Art Ed students are currently taking nine credits of art history (which includes ARH 1101 Introduction to Art) in addition to either a theater or music course. This equals 12 credits of Fine Arts compared to most M.U. students who are taking 3 credits of Fine Arts. We would like to reduce the Fine Arts credits by placing only ArH 1101 Introduction to Art in the Fine Arts Block.
List all changes:
Make ArH 1101 Introduction to Art the only requirement for the Fine Arts Block.

#2 Action: Program Change: B.S. Studio Art

Rationale for change:
Currently all art students must choose either theater or music in the Fine Arts Block. Concerning Fine Arts, all Studio majors are currently taking 12 credits of art history (which includes ARH 1101 Introduction to Art) in addition to either a theater or music course. This equals 15 credits of Fine Arts compared to most M.U. students who are taking 3 credits of Fine Arts. We would like to reduce the Fine Arts credits by placing only ArH 101 Introduction to Art in the Fine Arts Block.
List all changes:
Make ArH 1101 Introduction to Art the only requirement for the Fine Arts Block.

#3 Action: Program Change: B.A. Art History

Rationale for change:
Currently all art students must choose either theater or music in the Fine Arts Block. Concerning Fine Arts, all Art History students are currently taking 30 credits of art history (which includes ARH 1101 Introduction to Art) in addition to either a theater or music course. This equals 33 credits of Fine Arts compared to most M.U. students who are taking 3 credits of Fine Arts. We would like to reduce the Fine Arts credits by placing only ArH 1101 Introduction to Art in the Fine Arts Block.
List all changes:
Make ArH 1101 Introduction to Art the only requirement for the Fine Arts Block.
