The Department of Math & CIS has requested the following curricular actions:

# 1 Action:
New Course: CIS 3350 Analysis of Algorithms

Purpose and Nature of Course:
Expose students to an introductory course in Algorithm Analysis as part of a broad base core of fundamental computer science material recommended by the Computing Accreditation Commission (ABET)

Course Description for Catalog:
An introduction to the study of the theory and design of algorithms.
Topics may include analysis of Abstract Data Types (ADTs), NP-Completeness,
study of various graph algorithms, searching and sorting algorithms, and a look at algorithm design techniques such as greedy algorithms, divide and conquer, dynamic programming, and branch-and-bound.
Prerequisites: CIS3301

# 2 Action:
New Course: CIS 3311 Software Engineering

Purpose and Nature of Course:
Expose students to an introductory course in Software Engineering as part of a broad base core of fundamental computer science material recommended by the Computing Accreditation Commission (ABET)

Course Description for Catalog:
This is an introductory course which covers the application of engineering principles to the building of computer software. It provides a general overview to the field of Software Engineering. Topics may include theories, tools, and methods for the systematic representation, design, implementation, verification, validation, management, and maintenance of computer software systems.
Prerequisites: CIS3301

# 3 Action:
Course Change: MA 4401 Selected Topics

Purpose and nature of change:

To allow the course to have variable credit
OLD Credit(s) __3___ Undergraduate
NEW Credit(s) _1 - 3__ Undergraduate
To repeat for additional credit (not repeat of previously earned grade), list maximum hours of credit that may be earned over multiple semesters __6___ semester hours.

# 4 Action:
Program Change: Bachelor of Science, Computer Information Science - Computer Science Track

Rationale for change:
These changes are needed to meet ABET accreditation guidelines.

List all changes:

  • Drop 3 credit MA elective
  • Replace second 3 credit MA elective with MA 3310 Numerical Analysis
  • Add 1 credit MA 4401 Selected Topics
  • Add 4 credit laboratory science
  • Replace CIS 3335 Assembly Programming with CIS 3300 Program Languages
  • Replace 3 credit major-related elective with CIS 3311 Software Engineering
  • Replace second 3 credit major-related elective with CIS 3350 Analysis of Algorithms
  • Change statement under Natural Science section to "Choose a two course 8 credit lab science sequence."
