Action Notice: Philosophy
Rationale for change: This change will provide options for students
who are not interested in pursuing philosophy at the Graduate School
level, but want to use a philosophy degree for other career opportunities
and/or personal enrichment...
Program Change: Add two areas of concentration to Philosophy
1. Pre-Law concentration will consist of 27 credits in Philosophy
- PHL: 2201, PHL 2202, PHL 2000 or PHL 3230, PHL 3310, PHL 3340, PHL
4420 or PHL 4422, and two electives and 9 credits outside of philosophy.
6 of those 9 credits are to be taken from the following PSC courses:
4404, 3330, 4402, 3328; 3 of those 9 credits are to be taken from
PSY 4441, CJA 3324, BUS 4410, COM 4440, COM 3330, SCI 1104.
2. Applied Philosophy and Professional Ethics concentration will
consists of 27 credits in philosophy PHL 2201, PHL 2202, PHL 2000
or PHL 3230, PHL 2350, PHL3310 or PHL 3340, PHL 4420 or PHL 4422,
and three of the following: PHL 3260, PHL 3333, PHL 3380, PHL 3316,
PHL 3365- and 9 credits outside of philosophy to be taken from: SOC
1121, SOC 4415, PSY 4421, ECO 2205, HST 3308, HST 3307, COM 3334,
Program Description for Catalog: Philosophy/Pre-Law:
The B.A. degree in philosophy with a Pre-Law concentration is primarily
designed for students who want to attend Law School or work in a law
related field. Philosophy/Applied Philosophy and Professional
Ethics: The B.A. degree in philosophy with an Applied Philosophy
and Professional Ethics concentration is for students who wish to
include a significant ethics component in their curriculum.
